Winter Recap
Here's a recap of what I've been up to...
~Bought a car, an old Saab, I loved it until someone smashed into it. Got it totalled, bought a new car! I never thought I could love another car. But alas, I found a 2001 Beetle with only 35,000 miles on it, and we're in love!
~Traveled to Goldbug Hot Springs, Idaho with 12 people, some of whom I've never met. To celebrate and spread the ashes of our late friend A.J. Prescott. It was his favorite hot springs, and he requested that his friends from all over the country meet and fulfill his last wish. Thank you, A.J. We miss you, sweetie.
~Also, traveled to the SF Bay Area for my sisters birthday. Thanks for bringing me Adam! I had a blast with my family. Norcal rocks! Is that how you say it?
~I've been dealing with the Alaskan winter. It helps to have heated seats in the Beetle to assist in warming my frozen body. This winter went really well for me. Not many of them do. Maybe it was the Vitamin D?
~I moved my classes to a new studio at the first of the year. My students and classes are really thriving there. My relationship with the studio's owners is healthy and mutual.
~I traveled to South Carolina to visit my grandparents, John and Faith. They are both getting pretty old, and I was able to spend some quality time with them. I got to hear stories about the Navy in the 40's from Papa and eased my grandmother's worries about my world travels. "It's really a lovely place, Gram, and very friendly" It was emotionally draining to leave knowing that I may not see them again.
~Shortly after, I hurt my neck again. I don't think the herniation was as bad as last year, but I've in and out of chiropractors, acupuncturists, and physical therapy. I'm still on the mend!
~Tattoo! I've been working on the start of my chrysanthemum half sleeve.
~For some reason, I'm the type of person that always needs something to look forward to. A short term goal, if you will. Currently, it's hosting a FCBD General Skills up here, in July with my idol, Carolena Nericcio.
I'll try to be a better blogger!

Memories of a Child

I was also secretly miserable after playing in a pool. My skin never felt right until I was brought home and showered. Still doesn't.

New Favorite Toy

This photo is off of Fire Groove . One of my many talented fire performing friends, Alex, uses the Rope Dart with Fire on the end (instead of an actual dart). It is traditionally a Chinese Kung-fu weapon. The following is Wiki's definition:
The rope dart is a long rope (usually 10' - 16') with a metal dart attached to one end. This was a weapon from ancient times, which allows the user to throw the dart out at a long range target and use the rope to pull it back. The rope dart can be used for twining, binding, circling, hitting, piercing, tightening, and other techniques.
Rope dart play consists of twining, shooting, and retrieval. Twining and shooting can be done from any joint such as foot, knee, elbow, and neck. The rope is anchored on the left hand and played primarily with the right hand.
Skillful use of the rope dart can easily trick an opponent because the dart can shoot out very suddenly.
Awesome! Anyway, when I saw Alex and his fire rope dart, I knew this was the toy for me. He let me borrow his practice toy until I get good enough to use a Kevlar dart. It so much fun, to learn something so new and different than any other fire toy I've seen! Maybe I'll have pictures soon!

Memorial Tat
For A.J. of a Sparrow, just like I promised! I love it. Artist, Charlie at the Hole Look in Anchorage. My first tattoo from Charlie, and had a great experience. He's so business, and doesn't really take breaks. You definitely fee like a canvas under his machine. Now that I have A.J. close to me, I feel like the hole that his loss left...had been filled a bit.

Finger Waves and Pin Curls
This coming October my girlfriend, Pamela, owner of LaBodega Wine and Spirits Shoppe, and I are hosting an Anti-Prohibition Party. This ain't no political thang. It's a party in the Paradise Lounge upstairs at Bernie's Bungalow on October 10th. 1920's/30's costume is required! We'll have live entertainment, an ol' timey photo booth, silent movies and lots of music from the era and inspired by the era. As well as a specialized drink menu.In preparation for this, I knew I had to start working on my finger wave, pin curl skills. This was my first attempt! I finger waved the front of my hair on both sides, and then made pin curls with the rest of my hair sleeping in clips and pins over night (ouch!). I took the pin curls and pinned them back in a loose faux bob in morning.
Hopefully, I'll get better at this in the weeks to come. Thank god for Vegan Styling Gel, or there's no way I could pull it off!

Photo Shoot Worries

This is my very stressed forced smile face. Last night we had a photo shoot scheduled.... the original photographer didn't show up. I was stressed and pissy and worried. Amy took a picture of my worried face.
What's the saying? 'All dressed up and no one to shoot?'
Thankfully, couple Loren and Beth who are magnificent photographers, came to our aid at the last minute and gave us a fabulous photo shoot! I am so grateful to them as professionals and friends!
Results coming soon!

Next Tattoo

I've been facinated by Chipping Sparrows for awhile now and knew that I wanted one tattoed. They are very sweet simple North American Birds that make me smile. When A.J. died, I knew that I needed to memorialize him in someway. I've decided to get my sparrow, which I know he would love, taking off in the air on my right shoulder blade holding a flowing ribbon with A.J.'s name and living years.Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Goodbye A.J.!

Goodbye my love, my friend, my sweetie dahling! I'll miss you so much. You shed so much light and joy onto this life and everyone you encountered. You had so many fabulous stories of traveling and experiences and conspiracies! You made life richer and more complete. I truly believe you've already been reborn. I think as a monkey, maybe. You'd like that. You didn't deserve to be in pain, and I know this is what you wanted. So, I'll try my best to celebrate you and not mourn too too much. A piece of my heart went with you, love. Wherever you are, I know you're happy.
Goodbye sweetie! I love you so much!

Midnight Sun
It's harder and harder to fall asleep these days. We currently have 19 hours and 9 minutes of daylight and gaining! The other 4 plus hours aren't even dark...... they're dusk. I'm surviving on average of 5 hours of sleep. This photo came from alaska-in-pictures(dot)com.Summer slips throught our fingers like sand. It is so beautiful you don't want to blink.
